The Curious Case of the Exploding Flour Bag

By Holland Wesley · July 3, 2026

When Onyx was just a tiny puppy, I made one very important mistake — I forgot to lock his crate. Before leaving, I had tucked some groceries in my bedroom to keep them out of the way of my roommates until I got home. I shut the bedroom door, thinking everything was safe. Well... Onyx had other plans. Somehow, that little escape artist let himself out of his crate and decided to inspect the groceries. Out of everything in the room, he chose the bag of flour. When I got home, I opened my bedroom door to what looked like a winter wonderland. White flour covered the floor, the bed, the walls... and right in the middle of it all stood my little black puppy, completely dusted from nose to tail like he'd been baking all afternoon. He looked up at me with the most innocent eyes, as if to say, "I have absolutely no idea what happened here." It was impossible to be mad. Cleaning flour out of every corner of my room wasn't exactly fun, but seeing sweet little Onyx covered in white powder is still one of my favorite puppy memories. It was the day I learned two things: always double-check the crate latch... and never underestimate a curious puppy.
